Camping Water Purifying - Tablets

A camping water filter isn't the only way to get drinking water.

Water purification tablets are one of the cheapest methods of purifying your drinking water while traveling outdoors.

Personally, I always prefer to have a modern camping water filter with me. But, there is no doubting that it's worth having a packet of water purification tablets in your rucksack - just in case.

These are the two water purification tablets I prefer to use.

These tablets rely on chemical purification, but if the water is turbid then make sure you use a filter. In an emergency you could rig a filter from a trouser leg or similar.

But, if you know that you're going to be outdoors and needing pure drinking water, then invest in a quality camping water. It might be a bit of cash to shell out at first, but just how important is your health to you?

I believe that water purification tablets rely come into their own, when travelling in the developing world where you can be sure of the water quality.

Sure, that bottled water you're buying from a street vendor may look OK, but where did he get it?

You might not like the idea of mistrusting people, me neither. But, experience has taught me that it's a lot better than spending 48 hrs trying to get your head over the sink, while you're anchored to the toilet.

Tablets can leave a slight taste in the water, so many people pack a small sachet of vitamin C powder etc to mask the taste. This might not seem perfect, but think about the toilet based alternatives!

If you've got this far, my guess is you know you're going to be facing the possibility of dodgy water - if this is true then at the very least get some tablets. You owe it to your health.
