Camping Water Filters:

Increase your kid's confidence, deepen those family bonds - Here's how!

How can purifying water with a camping water filter help you to develop your kids confidence and bond as a family?

Well, I believe that confidence comes from doing things. The modern world is "clean" and Health and Safety mad.

Now I'm not saying everyone should take dangerous risks but I do believe we could all do a with a little wilderness experience in out lives.

But, I'm getting ahead of myself, lets start at the beginning.

The very early years of a child's life are vital in developing a healthy psyche and the relationship with their mother figure is the most consequential, but as they grow up a little, something interesting happens. They begin to want to explore beyond the safe little "mother's" world.

As they begin to loosen their belief that they are totally dependent on their mummy, they look for a new mentor and historically that is where the role of father is really important.

This initial separation phase is critical in developing a child's belief that they can be safe and live in the outside world. Children for whom this move didn't go smoothly can develop a dread of the unknown, or of really being able to place trust in. They can also have issues with not feeling "whole" without belonging to some group.

In this short-article I'm going to be suggesting that dad plays a key role here, and if dad isn't around, then using this same approach with another trustworthy adult can work as well. If only mother is around then it will still work great if she can step out of her natural caring role and show another more adventurous side to her character -- that's right girl, let out your frontier women.

So what's the ideal way to help your kids grow the skills and confidence to claim their rightful position society?

I believe that camping and wilderness life forms one fantastic way to get back to natural ways -- sure Baydon Powell setup the boy scouts back in 1907 - but tribes people have used learning the ways of the natural world as a path to adulthood for thousands of years. Traditionally this may have been a boys path, but in the modern world girls want the skills just as much, so they can stand on their own two feet and compete if they want to.

Organised groups can do their bit, but too many kids are getting big perching in the spare room playing computer games.

So, I say why wait, if you'd like to help your kids keep fit and healthy, while teaching them self-reliance, then getting outdoors is the perfect place to start. You'll be amazed how the family bonds deepen too.

So maybe you're asking: "Sure, but how do I begin? I've not been camping since school."

Well, if you're not an experienced camper, then I'd suggest that you begin small and build up from there, because a couple of happy camps early on will set them up for life. Select a local campground and a evening with good weather for you kid's first trip. It's another good idea to pack some of their favorite games and food because you while it's still a stretch for them having familiar things around will help them settle right in. Even better let them take some friends along.

You might be able to get by without buying much at all for your first trip - you can borrow from a friend or pull out that old gear from the back of the shed. If you really don't have the kit, see if you can hire it, or go on a vacation run by someone else who provides the kit. there is always a way.

As your kids begin to enjoy their camping adventures. See if you can find a book or someone who knows how to show them how to light fires, build shelters and wittle wood. Then get them to have a go. Maybe even book them in for a native people's skills course.

Seize the day, grab your tent, put on your pack and have some fun. Happy trails,

Dave.
